From the Heart: Phyllis Moore Skillman

Phyllis Moore Skillman

Phyllis Moore Skillman took the charitable spirit inherited from her parents and turned it into a lifetime of support for Children's Specialized Hospital.

I have very fond memories of growing up in Mountainside, New Jersey, in the 1950s and 60s. I remember countless shopping trips with my parents, riding past Children's Specialized Hospital (formerly Children's Country Home). They told me it was a wonderful place that helped children who needed special care.

My parents instilled me with their charitable spirit, so, when I had some spare cash, I made my first donations to a charity that had a great purpose and was based in my beloved hometown: Children's Specialized Hospital. I have no children of my own, but I get great satisfaction from helping the children of others.

Long ago, I created a small jar for lost money I found on the ground. Each jarful has become a CSHF donation. Soon I began supplementing those donations with some of my own earnings from my job at the telephone company. Annual support has since become a habit that continues today, and when I began taking the required distributions from my IRA, it gave me the ability to increase those donations. Recently, I took the steps to finalize my will, which contains a bequest to Children's Specialized Hospital.

I am pleased to continue to support this wonderful organization and their mission to help improve the lives of thousands of children, and I am proud to leave a legacy that will help generations of children beyond my lifetime.
