An Injury Turned Into a Lifetime of Service

Jim Pascuiti's family and friends

In 1963, Jim Pascuiti was an outstanding student athlete until he sustained a spinal cord injury that changed his life forever during a high school football scrimmage. Living with quadriplegia, Jim spent a year in rehabilitation, attended college and earned a Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling. Jim’s journey didn’t end there; it had just begun. He emerged as an advocate for individuals living with disabilities, receiving accolades on personal, state and national levels.

Jim’s connection with Children's Specialized Hospital was profound, as he served as Director of Counseling and later as Vice President. His mission was clear: to inspire others to embrace courage over fear.

A decade ago, Jim left this world but he will always be remembered as an extraordinary man, who lived a life of courage, faith, determination and tenacity.

Each year since then, the Pascuiti’s gather together at Children’s Specialized with extended family, friends and colleagues to celebrate the life of their beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to ensure that his legacy lives on. They seek to perpetuate Jim’s impact, guaranteeing that his spirit of courage and hope continues to touch the lives of those Children’s Specialized Hospital serves.

Jim’s story reminds us all that even in the face of adversity, the human spirit can soar and make the world a better place.
